Allocation of ‘New Voices in the History of War: II’ International Travel Subsidies

The Organising Team of the 2019 ‘New Voices in the History of War: II’ Conference and the Society for the History of War are pleased to announce that our internationally-based speakers will be able to apply for a limited number of travel subsidies. These subsidies are intended to encourage the submission of ground-breaking papers from around the world by helping to ease the financial demands of attending the conference in Oxford. The exact amount allocated to each successful applicant will be confirmed once the programme is finalised. Please note that we cannot guarantee funding for every applicant, but priority will be given to those who fall into the following bands:

1) Band 1 (Highest Priority): Non-Europe based applicants with no additional funding (no PhD scholarships, conference grants, external or internal sponsorship, institutional salaries etc.)

2) Band 2 (2nd Priority): Europe/EU based applicants with no additional funding (same as above)

3) Band 3 (3rdPriority): Non-Europe based applicants with additional funding

4) Band 4 (4th Priority): Europe/EU based applicants with additional funding

If you wish to apply for a travel subsidy, please e-mail the New Voices Organising Team at and express this wish alongside your paper abstract submission. After the programme has been finalised, we will be able to offer further advice on the claims procedure of the travel subsidies via the New Voices Organising Team/the Society for the History of War. We would like to express our immense gratitude to the Oxford English Faculty and TORCH Mellon for kindly funding this initiative.
